King Rama IV or King Mongkut was born on Thursday 18 October ,1804 the second son of H.M.King Phra Bhudd Lertla Naphalai of the second reign and H.M.Queen Sri Suriyenthra . He succeeded to the throne on 3 April 1851 . Being enthusiastic in science especially astronomy he correctly calculated the time and place of a total eclipse of the sun , in Wah Kaw sub-district , Prachuap Khirinkan province .
King Rama IV is therefore disignated at the "Father of Science in Thailand" . The reign of the fourth King of the Chakri Dynasty may be said to have opened up a new era in which ancient Siam adapted itself to the western way .H.M. kING Mongkut passed away on 1 st October 1868 at the age of 64 |
