To commemorate the auspious of the bicentennial anniversary of H.M.King Mongkut on October 18,2004
Illustrates the royal portrait of King Rama IV, the fourth King of the Chakri Dynasty in royal gown,standing with a royal sword.
King Rama IV or King Mongkut was born on Thursday 18 October ,1804 the second son of H.M.King Phra Bhudd Lertla Naphalai of the second reign and H.M.Queen Sri Suriyenthra . He succeeded to the throne on 3 April 1851 . Being enthusiastic in science especially astronomy he correctly calculated the time and place of a total eclipse of the sun , in Wah Kaw sub-district , Prachuap Khirinkan province .
King Rama IV is therefore disignated at the "Father of Science in Thailand" . The reign of the fourth King of the Chakri Dynasty may be said to have opened up a new era in which ancient Siam adapted itself to the western way .H.M. kING Mongkut passed away on 1 st October 1868 at the age of 64 |
