Gables are a beautifujl and distinctive architechtural feature, even when viewed from afar. They are the triangular parts on either end of the roof of important buildings such as the Phra Ubosot Hall, the study room for monks, and royal palaces. A gable can be carved in wood, covered with gold leaf, made from cement, or decorated with glass and glazed pottery according to the structure and the design of the roof and building.
The styles of gables differ from era to era. The stamps feature for different styles : pictures of animals in cashew orchards (Wat Phra Sing Woramahawihan, Chieng Mai); pictures of a Garuda tugging at the wavy tail of Piyana (Wat Khao Bandai It, Petchburi); pictures of the Buddha seated under the bodhi tree surrounded by his discples with their palms together (a stupa in Wat Phra Phai Luang, Sukhothai); and pictures of Phra Narai Banthom Sindhu (Prasat Phanom Rung, Burirum).
