Buddhadasa Bhikku, a great pholosopher in Buddhism, devoted almost all his life to preach Dhamma (the teachings) of Buddha to mankind, so that they might live together in peace and harmony. He established Suan Mokkhabaalarama in 1932 in Chaiya District, Surat Thani Province, as a meditation center for Buddhist monks and laymen.
In recognition of his great contributions to Buddhism, UNESCO honored him as a World Important Person on October 20, 2005, for his promotion of patience, peace, culture, human relations and understanding.
