The ox is a large mammal. According to Chinese legend about the twelve zodiac signs, it is said that once upon a time, when the New Year was approaching, a deity told the animals that they would be appointed a protecting animal for each year, from the first to the twelfth year. The appointment was arranged according to the order in which they came to convey Happy New Years wishes. All the animals remembered this day. Upon the arrival of the Eve of the Chinese New Year, the ox realized how slowly he walked so he started walking at midnight. Then the rat spotted the ox and jumped on its back. On arriving at the gate, the rat hurriedly jumped from the back of the ox in order to see deity. For this reason, the rat is the sign for the first zodiac year, which is followed by the year of the ox.
