Details : The Father of Thai Craftsmanship Standard, a Talent in Workmanship

His Majesty the King's talents are various. His special talent in workmanship is based on his ability to make his own toys when he was young. These toys were, for example, gliders, miniature warships and wooden carriages. When he studied abroad, he made a sailing boat to sail on a lake. He built a model of the H.M.S. Thonburi, making all the parts of the model himself and planing the wood. His interest in workmanship after his accession to the throne. Evidence of this can be seen in his design and building of sailing tournament of the Fourth SEAP Games in 1967 in Thailand. His Majesty won first prize in the tournament. To honour his talent and as proof of the high esteem in which he is held, on February 17th, 2009, the cabinet consented to decorate him with the title "the Father of Thai Workmanship Standard" and declared that March 2nd of every year would be the "National Workmanship Standard Day".
