A Scholar in Art and Science
Professor Major General M.R. Kukrit Pramoj was born on April 20th, 1911. He was the youngest child of lieutenant Police Major General Prince Khumrob, the first Thai Director-General of the Royal Thai Police.
In 1974, M.R. Kukrit founded the Social Action Party. After the general election of January 16th, 1975, he made history in Thai politics by forming a government from small parties and, even though the Social Action Party had gained only 18 seats, he became the thirteenth Prime Minister of Thailand.
In addition to his major in Thai politics, M.R. Kukrit was knowledgeable in other fields; for example, journalism, education, social matters and Thai art and culture. For this reason, he was honoured by the United National Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as the world's important person of the year 2011.
