150th Years Anniversary of Ranong City
His Majesty King Mongkut (Rama IV) had graciously designated Ranong to be a level 4 city, to be independent from Chumphon City and was directly under the administration of Bangkok on 21st July 1862. Hence, on this day of every year, it is considered as the Establishment Day of Ranong city.
On the occasion of the 150th Anniversary) of Ranong, Thailand Post would like to portray image of Rattanarangsan Palace, which is well known for outstanding architecture and long history, in its commemorative stamp collection. It has been told that the palace was built by Phraya Rattana Setthi and presented as a tribute to His Majesty King Mongkut as an overnight pavillion when the King visited Ranong in 1890. In this regard, His Majesty the King had named the pavilion as Rattanarangsan Palace in honor of Ranong city and surname of Phraya Rattana Setthi.
