Princess Scientist of Thailand
H.R.H. Princess Chulabhorn Valayalaksana is a renowned scientist with far-researching vision. The Princess' scientific accomplishments have earned her UNESCO's Albert Hofmann Centennial Gold Medal on 27th April 2007. The award presentation ceremony was held on the occasion of 100th Birthday Celebration of Dr. Albert Hofmann, a famous Swiss researcher. The Princess was selected for outstanding research in the field of natural chemistry products and was the first person who received this award.
Realizing the problem of shortage of medical and public health personnel in Thailand, in particular, the need to support the academic study of medical science and public healt; H.R.H. Princess Chulabhorn established Chulabhorn Fund which was registered to be Chulabhorn Foundation later. On 1st December 1987, the Cabinet had a resolution to establish Chulabhorn Research Institute to mark the auspicious year in which all Thais celebrated His Majesty King Bhumibhol Adulyadej's 60th Birthday. Regarding this, H.R.H. Princess Chulabhorn serves as the President of the Institute. The objectives are to lay foundation for science and technology as well as a center for experts who have the potential and knowledge to develop the country in sustainable basis.
