In 1950, the Department of Hygiene at Ministry of Public Health, in collaboration with the Wold Health Organization and the United Nation's Children Fund, initiated its attempt to stop the presence of tuberculosis in Thailand. In 1951, His Majesty the King donated 500,000 baht from his private funds to the Thai Red Cross to support the construction of a building, which was named "Mahidol Wongsanusorn". This building was to serve as a laboratary of the Science Division for testing and producing the B C G vaccine to prevent tuberculosis. His Majesty the King presided over the opening ceremorny of the building on April 4, 1953
