Luntom - or what everybody calls Leelawadee originally known as Luntom. Leelawadee trees have quite curvy trunks and branches. Their large leaves are waxy and dark green in colour. The flowers emit a soft fragrance. They are popular amoung plant lovers. The common name of this kind of trees is Plumeria, a plant local to the Tropical American zone. It belongs to the same family as Yiitho and Moke trees. The Leelawadee flower is the national flower of Laos, known as the "Chumpii Laos". In India, they are believed to be the flowers of deities and are planted only in temples.
Botanically, the Luntom are perennial trees of small to medium size and their branches break easily. Dark green leaves grow from the branch ends and they are elongated. The leaf-ends are smooth, the leaves taper and the rims of the leaves are even. The upper part of the leaves is waxy green and the lower part is slightly hairy. The leaf-lines can be seen clearly. The trees shed their leaves in the dry season before growing new buds. The flowers are sweet smelling and produce a sense of relaxation, for which reason they are used in spas, especially in Indonesia and Thailand.
